Basic principles of web design
Creation begins with an idea that comes from a proposed subject and the designer's knowledge and creativity. Each designer has his own inspiration environment that could be an area from "Carmen" or a "Metallica" guitar solo, a moment of silence or the noise of the city. But in every case the graphic designer must forget about the deadline for the creation to take place. In time he will become more skillful and will be able to face any deadline the client requires.
Simplicity and elegance are the basic factors in an attractive design. The page elements should not be distributed chaotically and the redundant information must be avoided. For instance: link1 and link2 are two examples of the mistakes mentioned above.
Logical and artistic connection between representation and site theme. This means that your site has to inspire its subject from a very first look. Suppose you have to do a design for a psychologist. You will use the images that inspire a relaxation and try to avoid small repetitive elements for background, images that inspire panic, fight, fear and so on. For example link1 is more appropriate for a psychological clinic than link2 . You can go further and make something more "smooth" with rounded corners, fad colors and images.
Right colors. Believe it or not you can not use any color you want for your web site design. The reason for that is psychological state in which the user is brought by your site. It can be irritable an perhaps even dangerous for users eyes. Lets see the same example of sites mentioned in previous item. link 2 has an strong purple colored menu in left side. It's not just undesirable for a site of this type but also is tiresome for human eyes. Such color intensity shall must be excluded from a element with such dimensions. About how to use an choose right colors for your layout design we will discuss in next articles. But now we will mention about the design element that is in direct relation with your site colors : the contrast.
The contrast relates to the difference between such elements of design as text color compared to background color of the same text. What brings to a color in a contrast with another? First of all let's see what "a contrast" means:
- the opposition or dissimilarity of things that are compared; "in contrast to", "by contrast"
- the act of distinguishing by comparing differences
- line: a conceptual separation or distinction; "there is a narrow line between sanity and insanity"
- the perceptual effect of the juxtaposition of very different colors
- to show differences when compared; be different; "the students contrast considerably in their artistic abilities"
- the range of optical density and tone on a photographic negative or print (or the extent to which adjacent areas on a television screen differ in brightness)
Well it's seems to be a difference between those colors and in our case it's the difference between luminosity. Suppose we have a color for our text background let's say something lighter like #fff4de it's a light warm yellow or skin color. Now, from our definition of contrast we have to choose a color with the opposite luminosity :

Something green (to keep the warm color palette) in opposite side of luminosity but not too dark to have a clear vision of the green color. The contrast is shown in right upper corner of the second image. Avoid to bring in contrast big part of your site design (for instance a big white square by 400px x 400px or something) on a black body of site... it can make you se this white square for the rest of your day even when you wiull close your eyes. An example of bad contrast is also a small difference between luminosity like :

But you may ask me : "how can we bring in contrast a text box if background is a picture with different colors" . Well you can put a semitransparent
background for the text or you ca apply an shaddow effect (if text has a lighter color), or a light stroke (if text has a dark color)
